CORAL PROJECT

OUR PROJECT

The Coral Regeneration Project is the flagship project of Best Dives Maldives Marine and Environmental activities. The aim is to regenerate the reef following both natural and man-made damage. The project vision is to assist the recovery of an ecosystem that has been damaged by different stressors.

Here at Centara Ras Fushi, Best Dives Maldives team started planting corals in 2012. Trained by a marine biologist, our team on the island has tried different methods to regrow the broken corals. The coral project site, also known as the coral garden, has now various species of coral growing into mature colonies.

GET INVOLVED

Once a month, we conduct a coral planting event on the island. Guests are encouraged to participate in planting the broken coral into different ready-made frames. These frames will be taken into the lagoon and will be monitored regularly by our team. Depending on the sea conditions, these newly planted corals may take many years to see significant growth.

Go on a guided snorkelling tour to visit the coral garden. See how the replanted corals a few years back have grown into beautiful small colonies. It is a truly rewarding experience to see how a small initiative can help regenerate the marine ecosystem for future generations to enjoy.
